Guardian Homecare seeks more carers in run-up to festivities

Published: 4th December 2020 13:02

A DEVON care provider is recruiting new carers as it enters its busiest period of the year with a target to take on 100 new employees in the run-up to Christmas and into the New Year (2021).

Guardian Homecare needs carers to join its team and provide services in the Torbay and Exeter areas not just during the busier festive period but beyond into 2021.

Manager for the care provider, Catherine Porter said: “This is our busiest time of the year. As the weather turns potentially chillier and we’re working in either very wet or snowy and cold conditions, and elderly and vulnerable people are at risk.

“We also see a rise in the number of people requiring live-in or homecare services when the weather is poor and, also, around Christmas and New Year, so we’re taking on new carers in order to maintain our excellent levels of care at this time of year and well into 2021.

“We’re looking for kind and caring individuals to provide services in Torbay and Exeter areas, so anyone who believes they’re right for a position should get in touch with us today. We’re not offering short-term placements, we’re after full-time staff.

“No experience is necessary to become a carer, as we offer free, full training, which includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users, with the opportunity to achieve qualifications after our initial six months probationary period.

“New recruits are given free uniforms, access to our national staff discount scheme with access to exclusive discounts online and in-store from retailers including Tesco, Primark and Argos, as well as 28 days paid holiday, paid travel between calls, paid mileage and electrical goods.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking for a change of career or someone who would like to give something back to the community where they live. Being a carer is an extremely rewarding job and you get to meet lots of wonderful people too.”

Anyone interested in a position should call Guardian Homecare on 01803 853198 for a free, friendly, informal chat and to request an application pack.

Catherine added: “Being dependable is key to this role, as people will be looking after the needs of vulnerable adults. Applicants also need to be honest, even-tempered, and caring and must enjoy making a positive difference to people’s lives.

“Being patient, able to cope with change and having the ability to display empathy and warmth are also essential. Candidates will need to have their own transport and mobile phone. We cover any costs incurred related to work.

“We are looking for people who would be committed to the role on a long-term basis so they can build great relationships with the service users we support. They’ll be able to carve out a career in the industry for themselves too thanks to advancement opportunities. We often promote within the company too to help maintain our position of trust and allow continuity of care.”

Guardian Homecare delivers personalised home care supporting people wishing to stay living safely and comfortably in their own homes in Devon.

It currently employs around 200 carers and is looking for 100 new honest and kind-hearted individuals to help add to its teams in the county.

“We’re keen to dispel the myth that a career in care is poorly paid and staff lack training, support and benefits. We offer new recruits a five-day training induction and a 12-week onboarding programme working towards a care certificate.

“We’re committed to up-skilling our workforce and we’re working hard to dispel the myth that carers are not valued in the sector. Being a carer is a highly skilled, professional vocational occupation that is essential to the fabric of our society. We’re searching for people who are looking for a long-term career. Care is a rapidly expanding sector and there is work for many years to come.

“We offer career advancement opportunities that mean we have a highly trained, motivated and appreciated team. We provide the opportunity for our staff to obtain professional qualifications up to Level 5 in health and social care. We have jobs available in the area now with immediate start, no experience necessary just a willingness to care and to learn.

We also offer flexible working hours, both full and part-time, as well as competitive wages, generous holiday allocation and a refer a friend scheme.

“Our support is not solely elderly care, we offer home care for adults of various abilities and our team puts people first by helping individuals live independently and providing peace of mind for families. Our service is also completely personalised and ranges from daily visits to respite and overnight care.”
