History pop up a success at Brewery Square

Published: 13th August 2019 14:15

Brewery Square played host to Tomorrow's Museum for Dorset at the outset of its tour around the county while its High Street premises is undergoing renovation works.

Tomorrow's Museum for Dorset arrived at the Square on October 19 2018, until June 1 2019, and welcomed almost 10,000 visitors during its eight month tenure. With a year on year comparison, the footfall is a six per cent rise compared to the 2016/17 season, and a 17 per cent increase during the off season of October to March.

The Museum showcased a selection of its collection at the Square, including historical pieces from Eldridge Pope Brewery, and hosted a variety of workshop events including Christmas cards, Easter decorations, and the town's annual lantern parade.

Jon Murden, director at the Museum, commented: "We have engaged a much wider and diverse audience during our stay at Brewery Square with entrance and activities completely free, a new accessible and welcoming exterior, and re-imagined visitor experience.

"We have held specific events for community groups including Museum Makers, a group of participants with learning disabilities, and Dorchester Family Partnership Zone, for vulnerable families."

Charlotte Spracklen, centre manager at Brewery Square, added: "The Museum has been a fantastic addition to the Square since October, and while we are sorry to see it go, we would like to wish them the best of luck with the remaining renovation works, and its tour around the county."

Tomorrow's Museum for Dorset is currently touring schools across the county with a spectacular inflatable replica of the Museum, equipped with real artefacts from their collections children can learn about topics such as the Romans in Dorset within a vibrant and immersive learning environment.
