Haskins Garden Centre brings the community together with postcards of kindness

Haskins Garden Centre in Ferndown has launched its Postcards of Kindness campaign, which has encouraged children from Hampreston First School to design their own special Christmas message for elderly members of the community.

Pupils from Hampreston First School hand-delivered 150 postcards to residents of The Aldbury Care Home in Poole, Fernhill Care Home and Amberwood House in Ferndown, all part of the Colten Care group.

As a thank you for taking the time to produce the hand-crafted postcards for residents, the school received a donation of cuddly reindeer toys from Haskins.

Lisa Looker, brand director at Haskins, said: "We wanted to make it our mission this Christmas to ensure that everyone in the community feels included in the festive celebrations, as so often the elderly can spend Christmas alone. By bringing children into the home to meet with residents and hand-deliver their postcards, you could instantly see the joy on the residents' faces. The children even performed a number of carols for residents after giving them their postcard of kindness.

"We hope we have facilitated a Christmas experience for both our local pupils and residents of Colten Care, that they will cherish for years to come."

Haskins has donated more than 400 Christmas toys to schools and charities across the south this festive season, in communities that are local to its centres.

Haskins is located in Ferndown (Dorset), West End (Southampton), Roundstone and Snowhill (West Sussex). Haskins Snowhill is currently closed to carry out the final phase of the centre's redevelopment plan, ahead of re-opening for business in spring 2020.
