Leading Dorset manufacturing company embarks on a summer of challenges to raise funds for Julia’s House

Superior, a leading manufacturer based in Dorset, is supporting Julia's House with a range of fundraising activities this summer:

• New Forest Aqua Park - Saturday June 22
• Tough Mudder - Sunday August 18
• The Big Ride - Sunday September 22

The manufacturing company has supported the children's hospice charity since 2008 and has raised more than £113,000 to date. Julia's House provides care and support to children and their families with life-limiting illnesses based across Dorset and Wiltshire.

Superior's fundraising activities are led by Sue Byrne, Heather Marchment and Katie Bodman, who encourage the whole team to take part in various events throughout the year.

The summer of fundraising kicked off with a team from Superior heading to the New Forest Aqua Park on Saturday June 22, to complete three laps of the course as part of a teambuilding day. The course includes trampolines, monkey bars, slides, hurdles, rollers, a climbing wall, a swing and a fake iceberg.

Eight management staff from Superior are entered into the South West Tough Mudder Half Challenge on Sunday August 18. The gruelling 5k course consists of 13 obstacles, taking participants through a combination of large grassy Gloucestershire hills, dense dark forests and quicksand-like mud. The team taking part includes Superior's Director of Sales and Production Director, and they hope to raise £1,000 in doing so. Donations can be made via www.justgiving.com/fundraising/superiortoughmudder2019.

Heather Marchment, Supply Chain Manager at Superior, commented: "After two successful years of completing the Tough Mudder course with an enthusiastic team of 30 people, we have managed to raise £7,800 on behalf of Julia's House. This year, it's time for management to show what they're made of - and get maybe just a little bit muddy in the process!"

Following this, Superior will be embarking on The Big Ride for Julia's House, which starts at the Larmer Tree Gardens and covers 100 miles of challenging climbs, as well as more rural roads through Dorset and Wiltshire. This challenge has been organised by Sue Byrne, Quality Manager at Superior.

Superior employees from all departments and sites are taking part in these challenges for Julia's House, including several apprentices from the Academy.

In addition to the company-wide fundraising activities, the Head of Superior's Apprenticeship Academy, Katie Bodman, will be embarking on a five day trek, up, down and over the Great Wall of China, in October. Katie hopes to raise £2,000 doing this challenge and is just £383.84 away from hitting this target. Donations can be made via www.justgiving.com/fundraising/katie-bodman1.

To demonstrate its ongoing support for Julia's House, eight managers from Superior attended the charity's Butterfly Ball at Canford School on Saturday June 29. This event raised just under £70,000 for the charity.
