College event to help students following their exam results

Bournemouth & Poole College is hosting an event which focuses on supporting students after receiving their GCSE and A-Level exam results.
The Come to College event takes place on Thursday, August 22 from 11am to 4pm and Friday, August 23 from 10am to 1pm at the North Road in Poole and the Lansdowne in Bournemouth sites. Throughout the two-day event, the College's Careers Advice Team will be on hand to talk with those who are worried about their results and may not have received the grades they were expecting.
Representatives from the Student Support team will also be available at both sites to speak to young people who have specific needs such as anxiety, to reassure them and explain the guidance they will have access to at the College.
A recent Mumsnet survey of more than 1,500 parents with school-aged children highlighted that nearly two in three parents surveyed felt that exam pressure was affecting their children's mental health. With more than a third saying that their children have lost sleep due to anxiety about exam results.
Debbie Smith, director of student experience at Bournemouth & Poole College, explained: "As the largest provider of further education and apprenticeships in the county, it is our duty to not only provide students with the highest standard of learning, but also to support them in terms of their mental health and wellbeing. At the College we have many initiatives which allow students to receive the support and guidance they require for both their education and also their wellbeing.
"This survey confirms what we already know, that children from a young age feel under immense pressure to achieve certain grades, which as a result is affecting their mental health. At our Come to College event we want to show students that if they haven't gained the grades they were predicted, there are still many other options out there for them."
Advisors will be at the event to speak to students about their retake options available, and specific subject representatives will be on hand to explain the College course structure.
There is also the opportunity for students to apply and enrol onto educational courses which start in September at the College, and interview for full-time courses on the day.
