Bournemouth & Poole College celebrates growth in GCSE pass rates

Bournemouth & Poole College's GCSE students have exceeded the national rate of high grades (9-4) achieved for both their English and maths GCSEs this year.

The College's English GCSE students received an achievement rate of 95.5-per-cent compared to last year's total which was 82.9-per-cent. From this overall rating, 36-per-cent of students received high grades (9-4) which is above the national rate of 30.3-per-cent.

Additionally, the College's maths GCSE students obtained an achievement rate of 97.3-per-cent compared to the previous year's score of 87.63-per-cent. From these results, 29.4-per-cent were high grades that again is above the national rate of 21.2-per-cent.

Tracey Griffin, Assistant Principal of Bournemouth & Poole College, said: "Our students should be so proud of the dedication and passion they have shown for their studies, which is reflected in the outstanding results they have received today. I know the hard work and determination that has gone into achieving these results and my staff and I look forward to supporting the students in their further studies with us."

Matt Johnson, student at Bournemouth & Poole College, achieved a grade 8 in GCSE English and a grade 5 in his GCSE maths exams. In addition he has completed a Level 1 Diploma in Applied Science to the highest possible standard. Paul Carman, science lecturuer at the College, said: "Matt is always helping other students who may be struggling with certain concepts of the lesson. His dream job is to become a teacher, a career he will excel in with patience and the ability to build up strong relationships with his peers."

Many students who have received their desired results will be choosing to continue their education at the Bournemouth & Poole College in a range of full and part-time courses, apprenticeships, A Level and degree level courses.
