Back to school with a head start

Author: Dawn Barnes Published: 5th September 2011 11:56
Back to school - how to give your child a head start.

Have you spent the last few days buying uniform and shoes for your child's return to school?

Did you imagine that they could grow so fast during the holiday, when at the end of the summer term you thought that that particular shirt might have been big enough to last until October? Was every shop you visited full of reluctant children and weary parents, with one eye on the end of the summer break - with just one hurdle to overcome - school uniform shopping!

Start ahead

So you heave a sigh of relief as the last item on your list has been bought and you might think that that's it! However you now have to convince your offspring that they have to prepare for the new term and that is not always easy. In the last couple of days before they go back to school you have the chance to prepare for those early morning starts. Ease your child into them by waking them up a little earlier each morning from now until the first day of term. Make bedtimes earlier also and you will gradually swing their body clock round to the termly routine.

Encourage them to eat breakfast, they won't be able to graze when they are at school and the work done during the morning lessons is the most important of all with most schools timetabling their numeracy and literacy lessons during this session. Brain power takes energy and they need plenty of fuel for this. Long lasting slow release carbs are the best for this - bananas are great for this, or oat based cereals.

Dig out the end of year report. It is a proven fact that children lose up to 3 months of learning during the summer if they do not keep on studying during that time. You can pinpoint the areas your child found difficult from the report. During the first week or so of school pupils will be grouped according to their ability. Perhaps you need to consider getting some extra help for your child to address those problem areas. This will give them the boost that they need so that they go through the term building on the knowledge that they have, rather than continually catching up and never quite understanding what they are being shown.

Approach a reputable tuition centre which is run by a qualified CRB checked teacher. Look for one which offers individual learning programs for each pupil, so that your child can learn exactly what they need to learn in order to progress. You will see a difference in your child's confidence and this will in turn aid future learning, which will make life easier for both of you. Have a good term !

Actually I read it https://www.assignmenthelper.com.au/do-my-assignment/ yesterday but I had some thoughts about it and today I wanted to read it again because it is very well written.
