East Riding Libraries Buck The National Trend

Published: 23rd May 2011 12:11
East Riding of Yorkshire Council's libraries saw an increase in visitor numbers, number of books and other items issued and use of virtual facilities in 2010-2011.

The figures for the East Riding are in contrast to the national trend, where visitor numbers are dropping, services are being scaled back and many libraries are being earmarked for closure.

Libraries across the East Riding saw the number of items issued increase by two per cent to 1,552,251 and visitor figures by five per cent to 1,211,188.

In addition, there were 483,200 virtual visits made by customers using online services, such as the web catalogue and digital reference collection.

Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for rural issues and cultural services, said: "This is fantastic news and shows how valued our libraries and cultural venues are to the residents of the East Riding.

"The figures highlight that the excellent range of services on offer are well-used and are becoming even more popular year-on-year.

"East Riding of Yorkshire Council is committed to investing in libraries, which is demonstrated by the works carried out at both Snaith and North Ferriby libraries, which have modernised the venues."

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have the pleasure to brief you on our Data Visualization software
"Trend Compass".

TC is a new concept in viewing statistics and trends in an animated
way by displaying in one chart 5 axis (X, Y, Time, Bubble size &
Bubble color) instead of just the traditional X and Y axis. Discover
trends hidden in spreadsheets. It could be used in analysis,
research, presentation etc. In different business sectors, to name a
few we have Deutsche Bank, NBC Universal, RIM, Vanguard
Institutional Investor, Ipsos, Princeton University as our clients.

You can download a trial version. It has a feature to export
EXE,PPS,HTML and AVI files. The most impressive is the AVI since you
can record Audio/Video for the charts you create.
