Sewerby Outreach Project
As spring gets well under way, the students and staff of Sewerby Outreach project are starting work on various gardening tasks.
Sewerby Outreach is a horticultural learning centre for adults with learning disabilities run by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council with support from volunteers. Located within Sewerby Hall and Gardens, the students gain work experience as well as developing social skills through interaction with each other and with members of the public.
John Fortnum, head of the project, said: "Each season brings its own challenges and rewards and spring is no exception. All the students are looking forward to the work that the new season brings and at the moment, Outreach is a hive of activity.
"Numerous activities are planned for 2012 and funds raised from these events enable the students to go on educational field trips and also finance seasonal parties."
Anyone interested in helping out with the project can call (01262) 400519.
Friends of Sewerby Outreach also provides further support to the students. The Trustees of the Association are volunteers whose aim is to encourage public involvement mainly through fund raising.
