Having led 20-14 at the break, the red and whites couldn't match that effort in the second half as the Warriors scored 20 points without reply to leave Sandercock and his players reflecting on a game that got away from them.
"We're disappointed because we had a couple of really good opportunities in the second half and didn't take them," the Rovers' Head Coach said afterwards.
"To their credit, Wigan took their chances and in the end that was the difference. We competed a lot harder, there's no doubt about that, and there are positives we can take as we scored some classy tries. But, at the end of the day, we had some golden opportunities in that second half and didn't take them. Wigan converted every single one of their chances and that was the difference between the two sides on the night."
Halfback duo Travis Burns and Kris Keating were the ones at the heart of creating those chances for the Robins and Sandercock believes that their partnership is slowly starting to get where it needs to be.
"I was pretty happy with both the halves, although we still have a long way to go with that," he continued. "Obviously Travis didn't have a pre-season because of his shoulder injury so he and Kris only started working together a week or two before the season started.
"It's a work in progress and they're getting there slowly, but all of the boys have to learn that when you play any side at this level, you have to take your opportunities. We had a golden one just after halftime but threw a forward pass when it looked a certain try and Wigan then went up the other end and scored which was the difference."
