Hull KR: "We're taking small steps in the right direction" says Sandercock

Published: 31st March 2014 09:02

Head Coach of Hull Kingston Rovers, Craig Sandercock

Craig Sandercock says that the Robins are taking small steps in the right direction after their 44-6 thrashing of Wakefield at the KC Lightstream Stadium.

The red and whites dominated the Wildcats in all facets of the game across the 80 minutes but Sandercock isn't getting carried away.

"For us, it's about taking small steps," he said. "We believe we've been taking those and today we took another one in the right direction. It's pleasing on a couple of fronts as we were missing a few players and also got caned 8-3 on the penalty count.

"It was a good victory and if you'd said to me before the game that we'd win 44-6, I'd obviously have taken that. I was disappointed with the try we conceded but when we've played well and scored 44 points I can't be too critical."

It's back to back victories for the Robins as they head into back to back Challenge Cup and Super League games against Warrington and Sandercock knows that the improvement in his side will need to continue with the Wolves also coming into some form themselves.

"We want to win every game and today was a big improvement on last week," he continued. "We'll then need to improve again next week as we all know Warrington are a class side.

"I thought our forwards were strong today and as I've said in the past, I think they've done pretty well all season. Justin Poore, Jonny Walker, Jamie Langley and Graeme Horne are all quality players so to play as well as we did without them means that the boys deserve a lot of credit."
