Continuing Success At Key Stage 1

Pupils in the East Riding are continuing to perform above the national average in reading, writing and maths in Key Stage 1, according to new figures.

The percentage of pupils achieving level 2B and above by the end of Key Stage 1 has increased by one per cent in all three aspects, meaning more children are moving into Key Stage 2 having achieved the nationally expected levels at the end of year 2.

Improving attainment for higher ability pupils has been a key focus across the local authority and hard work has paid off as an increased number of pupils achieved level 3 in reading, writing and maths.

Councillor Julie Abraham, portfolio holder for children, young people and schools at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "Together with the excellent outcomes our schools are achieving in Key Stage 2, the results indicate that these children should fulfil their potential at primary school level.

"This is an excellent result for the children and their teachers."

Mike Furbank, head of improvement and learning at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "The continued success at Key Stage 1 is a result of creative and innovative approaches in our schools which deliver good learning experiences for these, our youngest learners.

"Schools in the East Riding successfully manage the balance of personal and academic development by making learning fun. I am really pleased with these outcomes."
