This week September 2nd to the 8th 2019 is `NHSBT organ donor awareness week` and the local Tendring coast Clacton on sea pier and town hall are changing their lights pink and promoting this cause to raise awareness and save lives.
Nigel Brown pier communications manager said "What we will be doing will literally shine a light on the campaign in the hopes that people will be inspired to both save and improve lives. Those who donate organs are incredibly generous and the act can have a tremendous impact on the lives of the recipients."
Organ donation law is changing. Next year, the law around organ donation is changing in England and Scotland. From spring 2020 in England and autumn 2020 in Scotland, all adults will be considered as having agreed to donate their own organs when they die unless they record a decision not to donate or are in one of the excluded groups. This system was introduced in Wales in 2015.
In the lead up to the change in law, NHS Blood and Transplant is urging families across England to talk about their organ donation decision with each other, with the campaign message ‘Pass it on'. Cabinet member of partnerships at Tendring council Lynda McWilliams said "Sadly many opportunities are lost every year because families don't know if their loved one wanted to be a donor or not" Register to be a organ donor at the following phone number 0300 123 23 23 and visit https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/ to save life.
