From 20th May 2020, organ donation in Essex and the rest of England will move to an 'opt out' system. You still have a choice if you want to be an organ donor or not when you die.
Every day across the UK, someone dies waiting for a transplant, the law is being changed to help save and improve more lives. With the extra time on our hands due to the Corona virus do something good with it and when you are isolating take this time to register your wishes and your families for organ donation.
This can be done online or over the phone easily and safely from your home in under 5 minutes. Be sure to tell your family your wishes and know theirs if you can and of course keeping a safe distance as needed when doing this.
Do you want to talk to someone about the upcoming opt out system? ring 0300 303 2094.
If you are conscious of saving others right now through your actions and being proactive about it this is another important choice for you to make whilst you have the time to do it. This is another way of helping the NHS in the long term every potential new organ donor is being tested for COVID-19 and if someone has COVID-19 they will not be able to donate so the need for organs is the same as ever right now. You can register your organ donor wishes by ringing 0300 123 23 23 or visit https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/register-your-decision/register-your-details/.
