Last Thursday 16th July 2015, YES Partnership (Epping Forest Youth Employment Strategy Partnership) held a successful and enjoyable fundraising Race Night at Town Mead Sports & Social Club in Waltham Abbey.
This event reflects the excellent community spirit that exists in the Epping Forest District, indicated by the wide variety of supporters from across the district who attend, the businesses that advertise in the 8-page Race Card (Epping Ongar Railway, The Duke of Wellington pub, JW Blake & Son, Supergreenracing and Duncan Phillips Ltd) which provided free of charge by AboutMyArea/EN9 website and those who sponsor races (The Ewan Family, Waltham Abbey Tesco, AboutMyArea website, Waltham Abbey Marriott, Epping Forest Chamber of Commerce, The Coachmen and Supergreenracing).
The finger buffet was generously donated by our local Waltham Abbey Tesco store organised by Community Champion Michele Moore who is also a valued member of the YES Partnership Committee.
Each of the 8 races has a name and the 8 horses in every race are available for purchase. Those who buy horses, choose their horse's name and the name of its rider and there is a £20 prize for the owner of the winning horse in each race. A modest Tote, available for bets that are restricted to £1per person was run by two members of YES's Committee Paul Violet and Clive Snell plus Tony Lea provided very valuable support.
Pleased to announce we raised just over £1,000 on the night, the money raised from this event, and the annual Quiz Night in the winter, assists with the funding for YES's second "Investors in Young People" Awards to be held on 16th October 2015. The pilot event, hosted by Eleanor Laing MP, and held last November was a great success as indicated by the guest speaker, Iain Duncan Smith MP. Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, who said:
"This is an excellent evening, I hope it goes on every year to celebrate the success of young people and established businesses who are actually creating jobs and creating the economy and moving it on in the local area, I think it's a brilliant idea."
The Epping Forest businesses that we will be celebrating provide excellent support for young people to access successful and enjoyable employment through work experience, training in writing CVs and in interview technique, apprenticeships and, most importantly, experiencing, first hand, the world of work by discussing their prospects with businesses of their choice at the Marriott Hotel, a hotel that caters excellently for business meetings, large and small, formal and relaxed.
Nominations can now be made for the Investors in Young People 2015 Awards online via nomination form on the YES Partnership website: http://www.yespartnership.org/business-award-nominations.html
