Why spend time sitting on the motorway over the Easter weekend. For a more relaxed weekend AboutMyArea has a few ideas to beat the crowds and the cost while still having a great time locally!
The Easter weekend is a busy one. With many people getting a long weekend off work it is common for families to travel away for the weekend. However this usually leads to lots of traffic on the roads and long queues at all of the top attractions. For a more relaxed weekend AboutMyArea has a few ideas to beat the crowds and the cost while still having a great time locally! This year Good Friday is on 30th March 2018, Easter Sunday is on 1st April 2018 and Easter Monday is on 2nd April 2018.
First things first give yourself the weekend off even if you are staying at home. If you were going away the laundry and the cleaning would have to wait so try to forget about it even though you are at home - relax and enjoy yourself! Invite a few friends around and enjoy spending some quality time together. If the weather is nice - fingers crossed - have a small garden party with tea and hot cross buns in celebration of it being Easter. Why not try the AboutMyArea delicious recipe for Hot Cross Buns. You can't help smiling when you eat them.
If you want to get out over the weekend why not go to Epping Forest, Lee Valley Park or Town Mead? You can go for a nice walk, a picnic or take the bikes. The fresh air will do you the world of good - work off the chocolate eggs and best of all its totally free! Or why not visit the new Lee Valley White Water Centre, entrance is free so you can view the faciities and watch the white water excitement.
There are also plenty of places to visit within your local area that don't require a long fraught drive. Epping Forest District Museum is free and the kids will have a great time at their Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday 31st March or at their drop in Easter themed art activity sessions on 3rd and 10th April 2018.
Lee Valley Park Farms offer a reasonably priced day out and with indoor and outdoor play areas and new baby animals to see you can easily spend the whole day there. Don't forget to ask if you can feed the lambs.
If the weather is not good this Easter the cinema is always a great option. Get the whole family together and go and watch a fun film, now showing - Peter Rabbit, Tomb Raider, Racific Rim Uprising & Ready Player One. If the cinema works out a bit expensive why not hire a DVD from the Library and have your own cinema evening at home with hot dogs and popcorn with the lights out. Or take the kids down to Waltham Abbey Swimming Pool as they have lots of children's activities over the Easter break.
Spend a creative afternoon with the kids decorating eggs, why not try out our idea to make tie dyed eggs.
There will be Church Services during the Holy Week and some are specifically for families. You do not have to be a regular church goer to attend any of the services, please see our Easter Church Service section for details.
