The Blossom ASD Centre was the dream of Waltham Abbey resident Joni Flynn and through her sheer determination her dream will come true when the very first Autism specific school to be located within the Epping Forest District catchment area based at the idyllic location of Nazeing Park opens next year.
The main aim is to create a place for children with ASD to learn skills without education being the main focus, but the Blossom ASD Centre also wants to be able to create a family centre which will include many attractions that will be available for the children at the centre as well as the whole community to enjoy.
Imagine a place where children can enjoy the open spaces, with adventure play, indoor play, zip wires, slides, petting farm, boating lake, horse riding, evening outdoor cinema, hydrotherapy pool (for local people needing this therapy), Blossoms Cafe and Farm Shop with produce grown by the children during their therapy sessions on sale.
Autism is a word which covers a range of conditions, which indicate a different way of experiencing the world. The condition can cause difficulties and impairments, but can also manifest in special skills and abilities. Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a term that covers Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Asperger's Disorder, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder and PDD-NOS.
Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) needs to be understood by our community and embraced by all.
