Organiclea Fundraising

Organiclea are fundraising to build a new woodland classroom

Are you able to support us with a donation to help get a new woodland classroom on the ground? Read on for details of what we want to build and why, and how you can help.

Are you able to support us to create a new woodland classroom?

As we’re sure you know, Organiclea is focused on food growing, and the connections created when people come together to grow food. But a large proportion of our 12 acre Hawkwood site remains woodland, bramble hedge and meadow; we share this land with nature and seek to maintain it to the benefit of all that grows and lives in it.

It’s this connection with nature that we are now asking support for, so that even more people can benefit from nature-based learning and activities at our site. We want to build a woodland classroom, a roundhouse structure built using organic materials with traditional greenwood techniques, tucked into the woodland.

We need this new space because our current classroom is fully booked and we cannot meet the demand from groups who want to come to our site. But we also want to create the opportunity for people to enjoy and experience Hawkwood differently – with an outdoor space away from the main hub that allows us to be in touch and in tune with nature. Food growing remains the heart of what we do, but around the edges we recognise the growing need for people to reconnect with nature in many different ways and we want to provide those opportunities. And, of course, supporting a healthy and diverse ecosystem goes hand in hand with sustainable food growing.

So we are fundraising with a crowdfunder for the first time – we’d really love it if you were able to support us with a donation, no matter how small, to help us raise the money we need for the woodland classroom. £25,000 is the minimum we need, but if we can get to £38,000 we can make sure it’s fully insulated and accessible all year round, so increasing the classroom’s use.

There are lots of ways you can help:

Donate – our crowdfunder page is now up and running, your early donation will build confidence and will help others to follow.

Become a Pollinator – spread the word about OrganicLea’s new woodland building and the work we do to your friends and networks. Let them know that we are worth donating to.

The ‘Ambassador’ platform we are using gives you social media-ready updates that you can share – sign up easily to the platform here. Or else just look out for update emails on this list and pass on the link: organiclea.org.uk/classroom.

Take part in our Schools competition – we’re running a competition for schools in September, so if you’re linked to a school talk to them or email schools@organiclea.org.uk to sign the school up to the Ambassador platform and take part. The school whose Ambassador generates the most engagement and donations will win a prize of three free class visits to Hawkwood.

Keep an eye out for our fundraisers and events – we will be holding supper clubs in the glasshouse in September to fundraise.
