Local Police News

Some of the police priorities for the area include the following.

Home Security

As there has been a small increase in house burglaries in the area recently.  The police have a few tips to help combat this in future:

1. Ensure all doors and windows have security locks and if you go out for any length of time have lights on a timer switch.

2. Don't leave keys on the first flat surface when you come through your door - the keys can be stolen through the letterbox or window.

3. If you are going on holiday remember to cancel milk and paper deliveries and place a box under the letter box to hide any build up of mail.

Youth Nuisance/Anti-Social Behaviour

Concerns have been raised about the on-going youth nuisance and criminal damage in the town particularly in Cornmill car park where youths are driving vehicles erratically and playing loud music late in the evening.  As a result, CCTV cameras have been installed in this car park.

Pub Watch Scheme

Essex Police have set up a Pub Watch Scheme in Waltham Abbey.  All seven pubs in Sun Street and Market Square have agreed to take part and hoping to expand to other pubs in the area.

Cycling in Sun Street

The council's highways department has confirmed that Sun Street is a footpath, so a cycling ban is now in effect at any time the police with be issuing warnings at first, followed by a fixed penalty £30 ticket.

Other Current Priorities

  • Nuisance motobikes and mini moto's around Ninefield and Roundhills
  • Parking and vehicles in Market Square
