Pondering No 16

A strange heading perhaps, but having been quiet since September I thought a stand-out headline was called for! So, why the chicken?
Any readers who use LinkedIn, or indeed any social network, and who have linked with me will know that I am known professionally as The Chicken Man. Now this begs the question, "What has a chicken to do with investment consultancy"?
Well the simple answer is "Nothing at all". Yet since being known as The Chicken Man, commercial awareness of what I do has soared!
It all came about after winning a life sized chicken 'cuddly toy' at a fair. The comments received as I carried this chicken around were so numerous that I decided to take it to my next meeting!! With some trepidation I enetered the room, but 'bingo' she worked her magic again, and instead of being just another attendee I (or should I say we) become the central topic of conversation.
Since then I have nutured the chicken link, and it has been one of tghe most postive actions I've ever taken professionally.
So, what is the point of writing about this? Well, it's this.
If you are in business and want to be noticed amongst the may other people doing what you do, be brave enough to be dfferent. Of course you have to know your business and offer an excellent service or facility (Explaining to clients how to convert their pension or savings into a whole lot more -at no cost - tends to help!), and then - be memorable!!
Sadly the chicken has been done, but get your tinking caps on and find something thatmakes you different.
Could be a colour scheme or design change. Could be a name change (Remember what Englebert Humperdink did for Gerry Dorsey?), but make it memorable, otherwise you become grey and easily forgotten.
