Albert Hall sell-out orchestra to perform at Chelmsford's Civic Theatre

 OOTS at ArtHouse

Saturday 2 April at 7.30pm at Civic Theatre

The hugely popular M&G Classical Concert Series 2015-16 with Chelmsford City Theatres will culminate this April with an impressive evening of music by Orchestra of the Swan. Performing at the Civic Theatre on Saturday 2 April, the final concert of the series will see popular and renowned guitarist, Craig Ogden, join the orchestra for an evening of music from England and Italy, for which he has chosen concertos by Vivaldi and Malcolm Arnold.

Both concertos chosen by Craig Ogden are sure to delight; Malcolm Arnold's writing is eternally witty and polished, whilst Vivaldi's concerto contains beautifully simple slow movement. The evening will open with Pergolesi's sparkling Concertino for Strings, where the orchestra complements Craig's selection perfectly. Pergolesi's concertos are known to show a fine degree of skill and craftsmanship due to his experience as a violinist and a composer. Also on the programme is Britten's bravura Simple Symphony, so called as its main themes are based on some of Britten's earliest compositions and is a work of great wit and humour. The programme is then contrasted by a piece of Italian opera with Crisantemi from Puccini's Manon Lescau. This was originally composed as a memorial to his friend the Duke of Aosta, referring to chrysanthemums - the Italian flower of mourning.

Orchestra of the Swan is based in Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon and is Associate Orchestra at Town Hall Birmingham. Last season, the orchestra gave over 60 concerts throughout England and Wales, completed a highly successful tour to China and gave a UK tour with Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, which finished with a sell-out performance at London's Albert Hall in front of an audience of 5,500.

A fantastic and rare opportunity for any classical music fan, this wonderful evening of music, with its sparkling programme and the chance to attend a pre-concert talk at 6.30pm, will be an invaluable and unforgettable experience not to be forgotten for those who attend.
