Maldon Museum opens it's doors on 26th March
We're situated in the old Park Keeper's lodge at the entrance to Maldon's Prom Park a short walk from the town centre, but we also have parking nearby and a bus stop outside.
We hold a fascinating collection reflecting the social, domestic and industrial history of Maldon and the surrounding district over the last two centuries and beyond. In this, the Queen's 90th year, why not visit us and have a look at our photographs of her previous visits to Maldon.
Each area of the museum showcases items on one or more related themes. It could be memorabilia of Maldon's cinema in our film area. We have a model of the old local railway station, with tracks, in our exhibition room where the display changes most years. In the Long Hall you can see our lovely fire engine, a baker's oven and old local shop fronts stocked with packets and tins that you certainly won't find in our High Street today! Upstairs you can find the children's room and also a room displaying products of, and tools used by, local industries of the past such as Sadd's Joiners.
Due to a lack of space, made more acute now that the council have closed our previous storage, there is not enough space to display everything we possess. Therefore, in order to maintain interest and topicality, our displays are changed from time to time to include different items from our own collection or objects loaned from other sources.
We have retained our popular "Time & Tide" exhibition for 2016. It covers the activities along the riverside that Maldon has become well-known for - ranging from fishing and boatbuilding to families paddling and enjoying a day out. So, if you meant to get along to see it last year, but didn't then now is your chance!
We also have a small shop where souvenirs, key rings, a good selection of new and second hand books on areas of local history, children's toys and books and more are available to purchase.
We welcome School Parties and Group visits by arrangement and these can be made outside normal opening hours. See our web site for details.
You can check further details, how to find us as well as up to the minute news about the museum on our web site, www.maldonmuseum.org.uk or by following our increasingly popular Twitter account @maldonmuseum.
The museum is entirely run by volunteers and extra help is always appreciated. Please see our web site for available opportunities
There is something to interest everyone at "The Museum in the Park", so please come and see for yourself - we'd love to welcome you.
