The Merton Green Action Group await news of their application to register the land at Ash Tree Road and Merton Green Caerwent as Village Greens.The land is controversial because it was sold by the council to Barratt Homes in 2007 and they were subsequently granted planning permission for 145 houses despite local opposition.
The Action Group feel confident about their claim which is likely to go to a Public Enquiry when an independent Inspector wil advise the council.The land is being claimed under the Defra Law of 2007 which states that if the local inhabitants have used the land as of right for a period of 20 years or more,then the land should be registered as a Village Green.
