Start the New Year with a new career in care

Published: 29th December 2020 14:24

A TORFAEN care agency is encouraging people to kick off the new year (2021) with a new career in care.

ISS Healthcare says there is no better time to take on a new career and there are many opportunities for career progression where people could potentially land themselves a job for life.

Caroline Jones, Regional Manager at ISS Healthcare, which has offices at Torfaen Business Centre, explained: “In the New Year we all get that refreshed and motivated feeling, so what better time to kick start your career than by doing something totally new – working in care!

“It would make a great change for anyone who has found 2020 particularly difficult, especially if they have been made redundant from a previous role, no matter what industry it was.

“Many people think once they have worked in and experience one industry, they are stuck in it for the foreseeable, but this simply isn’t true. For example, people who previously worked in retail have excellent customer service skills and know how to treat customers with respect. They are super helpful and friendly, and these are just some of the skills that our carers need when visiting our service user’s homes. Being trustworthy, organised, punctual, reliable and being able to undertake admin tasks are also some great skills that are transferrable between industries.

“We’re looking for kind, honest, caring and reliable individuals to help to provide quality care for our older service users, enabling them to continue living fulfilling lives in the homes they know and love, or provide flexible, person-centred support at home or in the community for people of all ages with all kinds of physical or learning disabilities or mental health needs.”

ISS Healthcare provides care support to thousands of people, with services commissioned through authorities in the area or purchased privately by individual service users or their families.

Its aim is to deliver care, which improves the lives of its service users and that treats them, and their families, with respect, dignity and compassion.

ISS Healthcare believes its services should not only comply with regulatory standards, but that it also delivers excellence and promote overall wellbeing.

It offers flexible and supported work for kind, committed and reliable people, who have excellent communication skills and a genuine care for others.

Caroline added: “Being a carer is a highly skilled, professional vocational occupation that is essential to the fabric of our society and the beauty of a job for life means people can start at the very bottom and work their way up with training and qualifications.

“New recruits are given free uniforms, access to national staff discount scheme for many major brands, as well as 28 days paid holiday, paid travel between calls and paid mileage.

“We offer competitive wages, generous holiday allocation and a refer a friend bonus scheme. It is a great opportunity for people to achieve recognised qualifications and they’ll also have access to exclusive discounts online and in-store from retailers including Tesco, Primark and Argos, as well as discounts covering holidays and electrical goods.

Being a carer is a highly skilled, professional vocational occupation that is essential to the fabric of our society and the beauty of a job for life means people can start by training with us and work their way up the career ladder gaining further training and qualifications. In today’s changing world of employment, we pride ourselves on being able to offer long-term job security and career prospects.”
