AN AWARD-WINNING Welsh care company has recently (October 2020) joined a growing list of care providers coming together to help fill hundreds of social care vacancies in Wales.
Abacare is just one of hundreds of businesses that are behind the WeCare Wales campaign.
Neil Griffiths, Regional Manager at Abacare, which provides care across Wales, said: “The social care sector is under increasing pressure from an ageing population, and the current pandemic, to provide care to vulnerable individuals across the country.
“This is why we’re thrilled to be part of the WeCare Wales campaign, run by Social Care Wales, which works with employers to share all available job vacancies. We know how hard it can sometimes be to find vacancies, so to have them all on one website is extremely handy for jobseekers.
“There are currently thousands of people in the hospitality, leisure and retail industries who are facing unemployment and we, along with WeCare Wales, are urging them to consider transferring their skills to a long-term role in the care industry.”
Abacare is listed as one of the social care employers that people interested in the industry can find out more about on www.wecare.wales so they can potentially join its team.
The campaign is a collaboration with Social Care Wales and leading organisations representing social care, early years and childcare in Wales, as well as other national bodies involved in job-seeking and careers advice.
It is part of a long-term strategy to develop the workforces in the care and health sectors over the next decade, to provide a high-quality, seamless service to the people of Wales.
The campaign highlights the breadth of career opportunities in care, from childminders and nursery practitioners to home care co-ordinators and care home managers.
The WeCare campaign aims to show the variety of roles and career progression opportunities available. By using real care workers, the campaign focuses on the challenges they face, as well as what makes their work rewarding and worthwhile.
Abacare operates a professional Care Management Team that is committed to providing high quality care to individuals in their own homes.
The large team of trained, specialist, care workers provide positive based outcomes and person-centred care to people throughout the UK.
Its core values, instilled into every staff member, include ‘make us proud’, ‘focus on our service users’ wellbeing’, ‘communicate, listen well and speak with respect’, ‘be passionate, honest, caring and considerate’, ‘recruit and develop the very best’ and ‘lead by example’.
It believes it offers inspiring work for inspirational people.
It is a member of the United Kingdom Homecare Association, Ceretas (formerly British Association of Domiciliary Care), The National Homecare Council and The Information Commissioners Office (Data Protection). It is also registered with the Care Social Services Inspectorate Wales.
Neil added: “We are looking for kind, honest, caring and reliable individuals who wish to have a stable and long-term career in care, and who would like to forge rewarding relationships with the service users they care for. No experience is necessary to become a carer, as free, full training is given.
“We provide free, full training on a fast-track basis to make sure everyone we take on is ready. This includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users, with the opportunity to achieve Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) after the initial three months probationary period. The Government has also taken steps to ensure a quicker turnaround on DBS checks, so people can get into work quicker.
“New recruits are given free uniforms, access to national staff discount scheme for all major brands as well as 28 days paid holiday, paid travel between calls and paid mileage.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking for a change of career or someone who just fancies a bit of a change. Being a carer is an extremely rewarding job and you get to meet lots of wonderful people too.
“We’re supporting our colleagues in the NHS wholeheartedly, as we do on a daily basis already, by providing invaluable care for those who need it at home.
“By maintaining their health at home, we’re helping keep them safe. We’re ensuring they take their prescribed medication and we’re caring for their physical and emotional well-being every day. All this helps prevent adding additional pressure on the NHS and its resources, which we know will be under considerable strain in the coming months.”
