BlokeZone release their first single this week. The song is called Raise Your Flag High (An Anthem for Pride).
Richard ‘Ricky' Palmer composed the lyrics for this anthemic song. You may recognise the music, which was composed by Dan Balan in 2003 as released as Dragostea Din Tei (The Numma Numma song) by Moldovan pop group O-Zone. Richard 'Ricky Palmer has taken the music from this song, and addded original English lyrics to represent the LGBTQ+ community.
The release of the single coincides several LGBTQ+ anniversaries:
50th anniversary of Stonewall.
The anniversary of the death of Terrence Higgins, the first man in the UK to die of AIDS.
50th anniversary of the death of gay icon Judy Garland,
Pride in London is being held this weekend.
BlokeZone's tongue in cheek cabaret act is a must to see. Their aim is to bring back the good old-fashioned style of variety show. Their unique blend of singing and prancing, repertoire, costume changes, vocal harmonies and dance routines evoke memories of old-style variety performers. With their friendly banter and stage antics, BlokeZone are just what the 21st Century has been waiting for - some Cheesy Camp Cabaret! In the press, BlokeZone have been dubbed the Morecombe & Wise of Portsmouth! Indeed, one of their most popular numbers is Bring me Sunshine!
"We never take ourselves too seriously - anyone whose seen us perform can vouch for that! It's all about having fun - if our audience is happy, then we have succeeded in our aim." - Richard ‘Ricky' Palmer
