Wellbeing charity to attend free mental health event & men only session down on the farm

Published: 31st January 2022 11:09

PEOPLE who would like to find out about maintaining good mental health are being invited to a Wellness, Mindfulness and Nutritional Event at Northney Farm on Hayling Island this month (February 2022).

The day is being held at Northney Farm Tearooms on Sunday, February 13 and the charity Options Wellbeing Trust, which works across Hampshire, is one of the organisations attending.

Lottie Fogden, General Manager at Northney Farm Tearooms, explains: “Our event brings together many experts and professionals, such as those from Options Wellbeing Trust and other organisations from various relevant fields, under the same roof for one day to help give you free guidance and support.

“Following a hard 18 months, many of us may be feeling low, not sure how to manage moving forward or may have relatives and friends having similar feelings.

“Our event includes workshops and guest speakers, as well as taster sessions for pilates and yoga, to help promote and maintain a level of wellness and wellbeing from mental health to nutrition, rehabilitation and recovery. In the evening, we’ve a men-only event too. It promises to be a refreshing and relaxing day, and we hope lots of people come along.”

The daytime event runs from 10am until 5pm and all the sessions are free to attendees. A buffet lunch including vegan and vegetarian options will be available to purchase on the day too.

Options Wellbeing Trust’s Head of Wellbeing, Wendy Lee, who will be on-site for the event, says: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Northney Farm Tearooms to participate in its Wellness, Mindfulness and Nutritional Event on February 13, the day before Valentine’s Day.

“Valentine’s Day is traditionally all about showing your romantic love for others but this year we’re encouraging people to be kinder to themselves and to show themselves some love. We’ll be delivering a session called ‘WRAP On the Go’ between 1.45-2.45pm.

“WRAP stands for Wellness Recovery Action Plan and it can provide you with a whole range of possibilities for getting and keeping good emotional wellbeing.

“It’s all about being in control of your wellness, being able to advocate for yourself, and, if you’re struggling, being able to find your way back to a position of good emotional health and wellbeing. This Valentine’s Day gift yourself a wellness toolbox with WRAP.”

The event includes a range of professionally delivered sessions around physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as an afterhours session especially for men.

The men-only event, which starts at 6.30pm and runs until 8.30pm, will be attended by Options Wellbeing Trust counsellor Stephen Messinger. Stephen is a trained, professional psychotherapist, who has been practising since 1994.

Lottie adds: “According to the Office for National Statistics, three out of four suicides are by men and it’s the biggest cause of death for men under 35. More than 12% of men are suffering from poor mental health and are more likely to become alcohol or drug dependent. Also, men are less likely to access help than women. If you’d like to come to our event, please register confidentially by emailing us at events@northneyfarm.com or call in to the Tearooms for a registration form.”

The Wellness, Mindfulness and Nutritional Event at Northney Farm Tearooms on Sunday, February 13 runs from 10am until 5pm during the day and then the men only event takes place from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.

Wendy continues: “There’s a stigma attached to men’s mental health, so to all men out there, you’re not wasting yours or our time. Overcome the idea that you wouldn’t usually do this kind of thing and get in touch before things get worse for a free, friendly and confidential chat. Book yourself in for the evening event, come and meet all the experts including our counsellor, Stephen and find out about our new WRAP service, which can help you create and keep good emotional health in 2022 and beyond.”
