Dorchester Agricultural Society raises £10,000 for Mosaic children’s charity

Dorchester Agricultural Society has raised £10,000 for the local child bereavement charity, Mosaic, following a year of fundraising.

The organisers of Dorset County Show, selected Mosaic as the event's chosen charity for 2019 earlier in the year. Mosaic aims to develop a Dorset-wide network of bereavement support specialists for children, young people and their families.

The majority of the fundraising total was raised through a charity evening, which was hosted by the society in partnership with Lord and Lady Fellowes. The event was held at Dorchester Showground and consisted of an auction on the night as well as an artwork sale. Guests were encouraged to wear fancy dress and there was a prize for the best dressed table.

Dorchester Agricultural Society has also held a variety of events throughout the year such as its annual ploughing match, Spring Show and committee fundraisers that have helped to raise this overall total. The society then made a final annual donation to the nominated charity to reach the total of £10,000.

Mosaic was also given a complimentary stand at Dorset County Show that the charity was able to use for its own fundraising gains.

Will Hyde, Show Secretary, said: "We are proud to have selected Mosaic as our chosen charity for the year. Mosaic relies solely on fundraising and donations from the public in order to operate their services throughout the county.

"We have seen first-hand the positive impact that the charity has on the children in our local communities and it is inspiring to learn about the hundreds more our donation will help over the coming months."

Margaret Hannibal, CEO of Mosaic, added: "On behalf of everyone at Mosaic and all our families, I would like to thank the organisers and the public for raising such an amazing amount this year. This tremendous amount will make such a difference to the support we offer to bereaved young people throughout Dorset. During the past year we have worked with 258 children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or loved one, and we continue to see an increase in requests for all areas of our work.

"This significant amount of money will mean we can help more families, purchase more resources for our counsellors and continue to run our residential weekends, where young people can come together to share their experiences, meet new friends and have fun."

Dorchester Agricultural Society was formed in 1840 and is responsible for organising some of the county's most recognisable agricultural events including Dorset County Show, which attracts 60,000 people across the two-day event. Next year's Dorset County Show will take place on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6 2020. Please visit dorsetcountyshow.co.uk for more information.
