Local Charity Seeks Hungary Trekkers

Published: 24th May 2011 18:13

A local charity is holding a presentation evening for those interested in taking part in its most ambitious fundraising project to date - a five day trek across the Bükk mountains of Hungary.

As part of the celebrations for its 21st Anniversary, The Rainbow Centre in Fareham is organizing a unique five day trek through some of the most lush forests, picturesque lakes and stunning vistas of Central Europe.

Designed for all levels of walking enthusiasts, the challenge will take place in May 2012 and explore the protected National Park of Hungary's Bükk region which contains wildlife such as boar, wild sheep and eagles in sub-alpine forests covered in a variety of vegetation and flowers in full bloom.

Staying in guesthouses, hotels and, on one night, a traditional mountain hut, other features of the challenge will be visiting baroque towns and cathedrals, medieval ruins such as those of the St Paul Monastery at Szentlélek and restorative activities such as wine-tasting, authentic dinners and a trip to a thermal spa.

All money raised will go directly to The Rainbow Centre which supports children with Cerebral Palsy, adults recovering from strokes or with MS and Parkinson's disease and the families who care for them. The Presentation Evening has been organised for 7pm on Tuesday 28th June in The "V" Suite of Fareham Town Football Club.

The way we help children and adults with physical impairments is by using ‘Conductive Education',' says Julie Woodward, Community & Events Fundraiser. ‘This positive system of learning originated from the Peto Institute in Budapest and on the final day of the trip, there will be a visit to this centre to show how the money raised will bring the same opportunities for people here in the UK.'

To book your place at the Presentation Evening for The Rainbow Centre's Hungarian Fundraising Challenge, contact Julie on 01329 289500, juliew@rainbowcentre.org or visit www.rainbowcentre.org.uk. Places are limited to 30 and there will be discounts available for bookings on the night.
