Fareham Borough Council has launched the Great Fareham Food Rescue in partnership with Sainsbury’s to encourage people to waste less and save more.
All this week events are taking place across the Fareham borough aimed at raising awareness of food waste and giving people ideas about how they can cut down on what goes in the bin.
As part of the campaign the council is asking children to get involved by helping them design a takeaway bag for your leftovers when you eat out. This is aimed at reducing food waste from restaurants as around a third of what they throw away is food left on our plates.
Councillor Tiffany Harper, Executive Member for Streetscene, said: “By sharing ideas and food experiences, we want to demonstrate that we can reduce the food waste in our bins. The Great Food Rescue will be working with local schools, colleges, housing associations, families and community groups. The focus will be on fun and interesting food projects to save money by reducing food being binned.”
