Cllr Mrs Diane Furlong, the Worshipful the Mayor of Gosport, today marked the progress of the Brockhurst Gate mixed-use retail and food development off Fareham Road and Heritage Road in Gosport. The Mayor was joined by fellow councillors as well developer Millngate and representatives from the retail brands.
Cllr Furlong said: “I was very pleased to take part in the event. It's good to see major companies having faith in the borough and helping to bring investment, prosperity and jobs into the area”.
Brockhurst Gate brings some of the UK’s biggest retail brands to the town: M&S Foodhall, Lidl, Home Bargains, The Food Warehouse by Iceland, McDonald’s and Costa.
Tony Sweeney, Managing Director of the developer, Millngate, in welcoming the Mayor, said: “Millngate would like to thank the Mayor for helping us today and the local community for its support for this project.
We are proud to have signed up some of the country’s biggest retail and restaurant brands to create some 300 new retail jobs as well as over 200 construction jobs. Once it is opened the stores will allow many local people to do their shopping locally, which is good news for them, good news for the environment and good news for the Gosport economy”
Brockhurst Gate plans to be fully open for trading in early 2019.
