Making Space, a Leigh Park based craft organisation is a fun and creative place for adults, kids, families and creative professionals to learn new skills and have some fun. Starting on 20th June, Kate O'Connell will be leading an exciting 5 week club for young craft enthusiasts called the Kids Craft Club (KCC). This will run on Wednesday afternoons after school and will cover a different activity every week and all work created can be shown at the Hampshire Open Studios in August.
Kate O'Connell, Making Space's longest current studio tenant, creates beautiful craft from glass and ceramics. Her new range of quirky fused glass products is reminiscent of days gone by and inspired by steampunk and museum collections. The range is now on sale and Kate will be selling her creations at various craft fairs and festivals this summer. Kate's work can also been seen in her studio, when Making Space takes part in Hampshire Open Studios 2012. Making Space will be open 11-5pm on the 18, 20 & 21 August 2012.
Lynne Dick, Director at Making Space says, "We're very lucky as Kate combines makes high quality craft with her experience in working with young people. KCC is a wonderful and affordable opportunity for young budding artists to work alongside professional designers and is all about enabling young people to develop their own ideas and creative skills in an enjoyable way."
Kate, will be working with local artist Ami Lowman, and together they will teach tie-dye T-shirts, glass sun-catchers, printed bags, beaded jewellery and clay creations and much more. The KCC runs from 4pm-6pm, so is the perfect time for the school run and is suitable for those over the age of 7 years. The cost is only £3.50 a session, or children can sign up for the whole 5 weeks for just £15. Dates: Wednesdays 20, 27 June, 4, 11, 18 July 2012.
The KCC promises to be a fun club for any young creatives out there who want to do something a bit more fun after school! For more information please get in touch with Making Space on 023 9247 2491 or you can email outreach@makingspace.org
