Andy Abraham – The Review

The sounds of the swing era were brought to the Kings last night with the UK tour of ‘Andy Abraham's History of the Big Bands'.
The evening itself was fluid, but with elements of over prepared intros that created a clunky over polished atmosphere. The band itself revived some of the best known tunes by Big Band leaders such as Glen Miller, which didn't disappoint. However, it seems the X-Factor runner up struggled to stay on par with the ever powerful instrumentals, being drowned out at key moments.
The Kings provided a suitable backdrop for Abraham's Portsmouth visit, although some may consider it slightly static for this particular style that could use more audience involvement and interaction. The stage itself was well lit, with mood lighting reflecting the contrasting slow ballads and upbeat tunes.
An interesting performance with some good highlights.
