Although a writer from the Victorian era, Dickens work transcends his time, language and culture. He remains a massive contemporary influence throughout the world and his writings continue to inspire film, TV, art, literature, artists and academia. To celebrate the bicentenary of his birth The Centre for Studies in Literature has organised a variety of events, among which are screenings of Dickens films accompanied by talk or discussions led by University of Portsmouth academics.
