Action Stations At Portsmouth Historic Dockyard Is Seeking The Ultimate Laser Quest Champions!

Author: annahowelll Published: 24th April 2012 12:04

Action Stations is thrilled to be launching ‘Laser Quest' on Saturday 12th May. The UK's number 1 brand of laser tag is the latest 6-figure investment from Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust (PNBPT) to add to the other interactive features that make up the modern-day attraction at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

The indoor adventure, unique to the region, is set over a 2 floor arena, based on the bridge of a container ship and a pirate stronghold - linked to the Command Approved movie shown in the Action Stations auditorium - and will provide settings and challenges inspired by the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, with funky lighting effects, billowing smoke and a heart-pounding atmosphere, Laser Quest is set to be an exhilarating experience for players of all ages.

Nick Hewitt, Head of Attractions and Collections for PNBPT commented: "We are delighted to be bringing Laser Quest into Action Stations. It's such a great fit for us, providing another exciting and engaging way in which our visitors can ‘See the Navy, be the Navy.' And it's not just for the kids, either!"

To launch this exciting new addition, Action Stations is hosting a Laser Quest tournament throughout the day on Saturday 12th May. They are looking for teams of 8-12 players aged 8+; it's free to enter and all you need to do is apply with a team name and photo by Friday 4th May to LaserQuest@actionstations.org.

Teams will battle throughout the day to win a place in the final where they play the ultimate team of Royal Marines to take home the very first Laser Quest champions trophy!

Games last for 20 minutes and start with a personal briefing from an experienced Laser Quest marshal. Then it's into the pack room to get kitted up with a Laser Quest pack and laser gun. Points are collected every time an enemy player is shot, but points are lost every time an enemy player shoots you. Every time a player gets shot their pack deactivates for a few seconds, allowing time to escape to another part of the multi-level arena. When the sirens sound, the game is over and it's time to collect score-sheets and find out who had what it takes to beat the rest!

For spectators and teams waiting to compete on the 12th May, there will be lots of other activities taking place from rocket building challenges to face-painting, Hands on History displays and a games auditorium. Plus there will be a brand new mini port in the mast pond where visitors can drive a miniature ship in minutes in a safe environment. As mini pilots explore the water, they will learn new skills driving between the buoys and share a sense of adventure steering safely across the pond.

The tournament will begin at 10am with the final taking place at 5pm (approx.) and an awards ceremony (including some humorous titles!) will commence at approx. 5.30pm.

No Historic Dockyard ticket is required to play Laser Quest but a site ticket must be purchased to visit the rest of Action Stations and the other attractions on site - http://www.historicdockyard.co.uk/ for full details on visiting.
