St John's Cathedral Celebrates Olympic Torch Visit

St John's Cathedral in Portsmouth is preparing to celebrate the visit of the Olympic torch to Portsmouth with a special Olympic Mass at 19:30 hrs on 15 July.
Representatives of all the Catholic schools in the locality are due to attend the special ‘Olympic style' service celebrating the Olympic themes of Excellence, Respect and Friendship.
Commenting on the Olympic themes and the torch coming to Portsmouth, Canon David Hopgood, Cathedral Dean, said:
‘Excellence, Respect and Friendship are at the heart not only of the Olympic ideal but also at the heart of the Christian message.
‘Old and young, of any faith or none, are warmly invited to attend our celebration on 15 July to applaud the Olympic message.'St John's Cathedral stands on what used to be a section of Edinburgh Road, recently renamed Bishop Crispian Way in honour of Bishop Crispian Hollis of the Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth which covers Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, the Channel Isles and parts of Berkshire, Dorset and Oxfordshire
