FILM SELECTION FOR THIS WEEK
Ambiguous symbolism is the theme of our first film in October 'THE BIRD', is it a symbol for life and hope or is it symbolic of verminous decay? No doubt we shall find out. 'SHADOW DANCER' Friday's film is a gritty movie set in 1970's Belfast, and Saturday night's production, "THE IMPOSTER", will have you holding your breath for 95 delicious minutes of pure suspense. |
| THE BIRD (12A) - Wednesday 3 October at 7pm This elegant character study focuses on reclusive Anne, who lives alone in a tiny flat in Bordeaux, seemingly cut off from the rest of the world. Withdrawn, aloof with her co-workers and estranged from her friends, Anne spends her evenings at the cinema or in her flat, apparently resigned to a solitary life. With the arrival of an uninvited avian houseguest, Anne is forced to question her introverted existence and confront a profound grief that hangs over her. Driven by Kiberlain's astonishingly committed, nuanced performance and a subtle filmmaking style, THE BIRD moves towards a quietly devastating conclusion that is deeply moving and resolutely optimistic. | SHADOW DANCER (15) - Friday 5 October at 7pm Set in 1990's Belfast, Andrea Riseborough (BRIGHTON ROCK) gives a devastating performance as Colette McVeigh, a young mother and active IRA agent who is caught by MI5 and persuaded to turn informant. Embroiled in a deadly web of political intrigue and conspiracy, Colette struggles to preserve her cover and protect her young son. Adapted by Tom Bradby from his own acclaimed novel, the film couples a vivid evocation of the Troubles with a pulse-pounding thriller narrative, complete with terrific performances from an all-star cast. | THE IMPOSTER (15) - Saturday 6 October at 7pm In 1994 the disappearance of 13-year-old Nicholas Barclay rocked his Texan town to its core. Without any clue to his whereabouts, the ensuing search looked like a lost cause. But his family kept hoping and praying and, over three years later, they got their miracle. Nicholas was found halfway around the world, living on the streets in Spain, leading to the most unlikely and emotional of reunions. But all was not as it seemed. Nicholas looked and sounded decidedly different. Stranger still - why did his family seemingly not notice these glaring inconsistencies? It is only when an investigator starts asking questions that this astounding true story takes an even more extraordinary turn. The film has jaw-dropping twists and revelations more reminiscent of film noir than documentary. More information and trailer |
