Portsmouth residents over 60's are invited to try something different at the 60+ Festival, organised by Portsmouth City Council, running until Friday 12 October.
The free festival has a whole host of activities and events for older people to try out, for an enjoyable day out in Portsmouth or a great way to meet new people and stay fit and active.
The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Frank Jonas, said:
"This year's activities promise to be fun, informative and unique, encouraging over 60's all over the city to get active and take part in healthy and social activities."
Events will be running every day during the festival including free entry to the D-Day Museum, and free swimming at Eastney Swimming Pool, Charter Community Sports Centre and Mountbatten Leisure Centre.
Other events and activities range from fitness classes to free courses and arts and crafts sessions. If you're interested in staying supple then yoga, Pilates or aqua fit could be for you. If you're drawn to the arts then the still life classes, silk painting sessions, or drama classes might be more your colour. There are also some stitching and sewing sessions, and knitting groups for those who fancy a bit of a natter.
For a bit of fun you could have a go at bowling, ballroom dancing or singing lessons. If you're looking for something a little more serious, you could come along to one of the computer or laptop sessions, or a talk on money, scams or understanding legal essentials. You could even go for lunch, or enjoy a cookery or bread making session.
There are still a few places left on some great workshops:
- Poetry appreciation reading group to celebrate National Poetry Day - Third Floor Central Library, Thursday 4 October, 10am
- Workshop with Poet Laureate Sam Cox - Third Floor Central Library, Thursday 4 October, 1.30pm
- A Morning with Tom Owen (son of Bill Owen, Last of the Summer Wine) - Groundlings Theatre, Friday 5 October, 10am
- Volunteering and fundraising - King's Theatre, Tuesday 9 October, drop in any time 11am - 3pm (no need to book)
