Following their taster session, a new drama group has started from overenthusiastic attendees.
Taking part for the first time, Groundlings Theatre held a variety of workshops, tours and talks during Portsmouth's Over 60's Festival.
For two weeks, taster sessions were provided throughout the city to encourage people to try something new, engage with their communities and to get out and about around Portsmouth.
From stitching in the wardrobe to touring the theatre and learning about the Old Benny's past, Groundlings staff joined in the merriment as new faces helped to bring the theatre alive during the daytime.
Tom Owen, from Last of the Summer Wine enjoyed an active Q+A session as he took his lead from the audiences. Tom was quizzed about his career, his life and of course his dad, actor Bill Owen. The audience were pleased to learn that Tom will be returning to the show at the end of the month in two shows, Treading the Boards and Krapp's Last Tape.
He said, 'Its always delightful to meet your audience, to share your experiences and to hear their views on subjects close to your heart.'
A two-hour drama session was also on the program, and as the time whizzed by, the group didn't want to leave. Finding space in their packed schedule, the Company of Elders will now run every Wednesday between 10am - 12noon.
Artistic director, Richard Stride said, 'This is something I have wanted to do for a while. The group that came in during the Festival were really enthusiastic and simply didn't want the session to finish. Drama is something that can help with your everyday life, you don't have to go on stage and its a really enjoyable way to spend a morning. You don't need previous experience and its a great way to meet new friends. All the staff here are welcoming and will make everyone feel at home. I really recommend you give it a go, who knows, we may have new, budding actors to join in our productions.'
