Portsmouth Film Society Presents The Selfish Giant
Published: 27th January 2014 11:08 |
Clio Barnard, director of the extraordinary and innovative documentary "The Arbor", returns with this powerful, poetic, award winning drama centering on those who live at the margins of Modern Britain.
Looking for a quick buck, Arbor and Swift begin collecting scrap metal for a local Bradford dealer using a horse and cart - but Arbor begins to emulate the threatening and shady ‘selfish giant' of the film's title by becoming increasingly greedy and exploitative. A brilliant, almost mythical tale about growing up in Britain today.
"Conner Chapman and Shaun Thomas are terrific fresh finds for Barnard, and the film is a triumph in the direction of young untried actors.." Sight & Sound
"The Selfish Giant will have a very long shelf life and will be watched for years to come." The Independent
"The Selfish Giant is one of the great modern British films." Financial Times
Well will, also be showing "PERCEPTION" the short film that won this year's Guide award for best short film as part of the programme.
