An Evening With Kate Adie

Published: 28th May 2014 16:28

Explosion, the Museum of Naval Firepower in Gosport is pleased to announce it is hosting a special evening with author, journalist and news correspondent Kate Adie. The event, organised to begin at 7pm on the 10th of June, will see Kate discuss her latest book entitled ‘Fighting on the Home Front - The Legacy of Women in World War One'.

Kate Adie became the BBC`s chief news correspondent in 1989, and has reported from war zones around the world. She has won numerous awards including three Royal Television Society awards, the Bafta Richard Dimbleby Award, and the Broadcasting Press Guild`s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Broadcasting. She was awarded an OBE in 1993.

As part of the evening, Kate Adie will reveal the ways in which women's lives changed forever during World War One and what the impact has been for women in its centenary year. The subject has particular relevance given the content of the Museum displays and history of the Priddy's Hard site. Thousands of women worked on the site during both world wars. Priddy's Hard played a major role in naval operations worldwide for over 200 years, as well as its importance to the local Gosport community, which not only armed the Navy but also fed and watered it.

Operations Manager Marc Farrance said ‘we are thrilled to be welcoming Kate Adie to the Museum. Kate's insight into the lives of women workers during the First World War should be fascinating. What better place to host such an event given the history of Priddy's Hard and the significant contribution of women workers on our site. We would like to thank Kate and all at Hodder & Stoughton for making this possible'.

The evening begins from 7pm on Tuesday 10th of June. Tickets MUST be purchased in advance, tickets are £10 each. More information on this and other events can be found by visiting www.explosion.org.uk Alternatively contact the Museum by phone on 023 9250 5600.
