Artist Jonny Hannah will also be on hand with special limited edition goody bags to give away whilst stocks last.
Two of Portsmouth's cultural destinations are excited to announce that the Lord Mayor, Councillor Steven Wylie, will attend the opening of the new gallery space at the heart of Portsmouth Guildhall tonight, June 17th at 6pm. The new space launches with an exhibition from Southampton based artist Jonny Hannah, entitled "All that other Mother Jazz".
Jonny Hannah grew up in Dunfermline & studied at the Cowdenbeath College of Knowledge, Liverpool Art School & then the Royal College of Art. For the last sixteen years he has been a freelance illustrator, & is represented by the Heart Agency in London & New York. His many clients include The Sunday Telegraph, The New York Times & The St. Kilda Courier.
He happily lives in Southampton, with Sharon and their two bairns and is the course leader for BA Illustration at Southampton Solent School of Art & Design. His studio has now returned to his back garden, in the loveliest of sheds, now HQ to the ‘Cakes & Ale Press', a cottage industry publishing books, prints, posters, tea towels and badges.
This exhibition is part of a continuing journey, down, down, down into the belly of obscure pop culture. Blues, Jazz, Western Swing, Folk & Hokum & Chanson. Not to mention poetry & films. All will be told in full in his forthcoming monograph, ‘Greetings from Darktown', published later this year by Merrell Books.
Jonny will also be distributing some specially limited edition goody bags at the preview. They'll be given out on a strictly first come, first served basis, so get there early to be in with a chance of receiving one!
