Billy Smart's Circus is a household name with a reputation built on performance quality and Big Top magic. The UK tour is brimming with a dazzling combination of theatre, music and dance.
Its amazing international artistes will bring you a sensational mix of acrobatics, comedy, juggling, illusion and aerial feats. There are no animals and quality and innovation are at the top of the agenda for this sensational company of performers which includes a gravity defying flying trapeze troupe.
Billy Smart founded his circus in 1946 and it soon became the greatest of the circuses which toured Britain throughout the 1950's and 60's.
The Circus became a household name through the quality and slickness of its touring productions, and also through its TV circuses - one at Christmas, one at Easter, and also a ‘junior' version featuring young artistes.
Our circus stopped touring at the end of 1971. The TV productions continued through to the 80's, including a ‘special' in 1977 in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness Prince Philip - which I was honoured to present in Windsor Great Park for the Queens Silver Jubilee.
Billy Smart's Circus back is proud to be returning as a touring circus, which has not tried to re-create the ‘old' Smart's - it would be too big to tour in these times, and styles have changed. This is a modern, compact version, designed for twenty-first century audiences.
Billy Smart's Circus has changed since 1971 but to make this new version of Circus it has kept two essential ingredients - Quality to the very highest standard of performance, and Magic, the true magic of the Big Top, as well as keeping to the principle of including fresh young artistes. This is a young company, a young show - a new generation of Billy Smart's Circus.
