Portsmouth Cathedral Hosts Concert In Aid Of Iraqi Victims Of War

Published: 19th May 2015 14:34

Portsmouth Cathedral will host a special organ and piano concert on behalf of Iraqi Christians in Need.  The free concert will be held on Sunday 31st of May at 2:45pm at Portsmouth Cathedral, High Street, Old Portsmouth.

The performances will be by Carl Bahoshy, a musician born in the United Kingdom in an Iraqi Roman Catholic family.  He trained as a pianist and organist (Dip. ABRSM) and currently serves as the resident organist of St. Elizabeth's of Portugal, Roman Catholic Church in Richmond, London.

The charity Iraqi Christians in Need is currently providing direct financial relief to 120,000 displaced refugees under the care of the Catholic Chaldean, Syriac and Orthodox churches in Erbil, northern Iraq.  Current economic priorities include the procurement of medical aid and shelter with all monies channelled through the Bishops of the churches. To date, the charity has sent over £150,000 to Bishops; a sum which included a contribution made by HRH The Prince of Wales shortly before Christmas 2014.

Carl Bahoshy will perform works by Beethoven, Boëllmann, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Schubert with a programme lasting approximately 80 minutes.  Regarding his upcoming concert, Carl stated, "Please do come and support the important work the charity is doing for suffering Christians in northern Iraq."

The event is free to the public and all are welcome.  A retiring collection in aid of Iraqi Christians In Need, supporting refugee families in Northern Iraq, will be held at the end of the concert.
