New Theatre Royal Collaborates With Portsmouth Festivities On Theatre Performances For Young Audiences

Published: 17th June 2015 13:03

New Theatre Royal has partnered with Portsmouth Festivities for a number of upcoming interactive theatre performances for young audiences in Portsmouth.

Exploring communication, sounds and the anatomy of the voice alongside visual cues the interactive productions combine technology with playful performance and live music to ignite the imaginations of children and their families.

'Our Island' is an installation created by pupils from five local schools in collaboration with New Theatre Royal's Lab Associates, Filskit Theatre Company. The production allows children to experience the sights, sounds and stories of Portsmouth through a unique blend of interactive projection, sound and poetry.

The production takes place at the Menuhim Theatre in Portsmouth Central Library on Monday 22nd June. Book your free tickets for ‘Our Island' by emailing takepart@newtheatreroyal.com

Nic Williams, Learning and Participation Manager at New Theatre Royal, commented "New Theatre Royal is delighted to once again be a part of Portsmouth Festivities, NTR is coproducing two shows this year both aimed at encouraging young children and their parents to engage with the arts."

Another New Theatre Royal event taking place, as part of the festivities is ‘Uluzuzulalia', a musical workshop supported by the Arts Council and Welcome Trust, designed to creatively engage with children by exploring what their voices can do in an atmosphere of fun and excitement.

Aimed at children aged 6-11, the worskshop has been organised by JumpStart, a partnership formed by New Theatre Royal, Aspex Art Gallery and the Portsmouth Cultural Trust, to develop talent and enthusiasm for the arts in schools across Portsmouth and Hampshire.

There will be a number of JumpStart events and performances for children taking place that are open to the public on Thursday 25th June, Friday 26th June and Saturday 27th June, with sessions starting at 10:30 and 14:30 at the Menuhim Theatre in Portsmouth Central Library.

Tickets for Uluzuzulalia are priced at £4 for children and £8 for adults and can be booked through www.newtheatreroyal.com For more information on upcoming events and to book tickets for performances visit http://www.newtheatreroyal.com/ or call the box office on 02392 843 979 (line open Monday to Friday 9-5)
