Portsmouth Schools' Music Festival

The Portsmouth Schools' Music Festival has been running for over 50 years, having started as a small gathering of schools, and this year will be held over 4 nights from 30th June - 3rd July, involving over 1500 young people from across Portsmouth and the surrounding area. For the first time the Portsmouth Schools' Music Festival are welcoming schools from the Havant and Gosport areas as well as local schools.
This annual festival is held at the Portsmouth Guildhall and all schools and colleges in the Portsmouth area are invited to take part. The Festival will involve choirs of children from Infant, Junior and Secondary schools, local colleges, and local youth orchestras, ensembles and dance groups. Performances will include music from West End musicals, films and pop groups old and new.
The Festival is organised by a committee of volunteers (teachers, teaching support staff and students) and many of the teachers who bring their students along remember being involved in the Festival when they themselves were at school. It gives young people the chance to perform on stage to a large audience, an opportunity that many of them would otherwise never get to experience.
