Anna's Weekly Soap Update for Week Ending 24 June

Author: annahowelll Published: 25th June 2012 18:36

Hollyoaks

The Savages are back but Jack (Jimmy McKenna) isn't too happy as they have moored up a house boat next to the newly refurbished pub.  Their constant partying and loud music lead him to issue an eviction notice, but with some clever acting they soon get him to let them stay, meanwhile charging them a huge rent.

Mitzeee (Rachel Shenton) returns from New York unexpectedly early, and is caught unawares herself when she realises that Riley (Rob Norbury) and Lynsey (Karen Hassan) have split up and he has moved back into her flat.  In the middle of the week she plucks up the courage to tell him how she really feels and is heartbroken when he rejects her saying that they as a couple would never happen.  The next day she bumps into a premiership footballer friend of his who takes a shine to her and invites her to Paris for the weekend.  Mitzeee agrees but when she goes home to get packed a very ill Riley turns up and she ends up cancelling her trip to look after him.  After yet another rejection from her second cousin, she decides to give the other footballer a chance and agrees to go out for the evening with him, but when he goes in to kiss her she pulls away admitting that she is in love with Riley.

Meanwhile Riley has discovered how she cancelled the trip to look after him, and after a very drunken night with the boys, which resulted in Rhys (Ashley Taylor-Dawson) being locked up for the night in a police cell, and Doug (PJ Brennan) standing up to Brendan (Emmett J Scanalan) and his meddling moustache, Riley decides to send a text to Mitzeee to tell her he loves her too.

The only problem is he is so drunk that he sends the message to Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) by mistake before passing out in the bushes.

The next day Mercedes is over the moon thinking that she and Riley are back on and lets herself into his flat thinking he has invited her over for a romantic meal and slips into the bedroom to wait for him there.

Riley, in the meantime, has nipped out to get some flowers for Mitzeee, who the meal is actually for.  Mitzeee has just discovered that Riley had tried to text her (neither of them knowing that it actually went to Mercy by the way as Riley lost his phone in the bushes) and the pair met on the doorstep declaring their undying love for each other.  They go upstairs, still very much in the throes of passion and tumble into Mitzeee's bedroom, totally unaware that a naked and heartbroken Mercedes is in the next room having witnessed it all!  Want to know what happens next? Carmel (Gemma Merna) is having a really hard time accepting the scars on her face and reaches rock bottom.  As she wanders up to the roof of the hospital it looks like she has finally given up, until Lynsey spots her and talks her down from the ledge.  Can't wait to find out what happens?  Click here.

Brendan is feeling rather annoyed after his little talking down from Doug and so steps up his bullying behaviour towards Hollyoaks hottest couple.  Meanwhile, Ste (Keiron Richardson) and Doug finally consummate their relationship, but when they emerge from the bedroom they are shocked to see Brendan waiting in the front room for them.  As Ste goes to phone the police, Brendan produces his set of keys; he has just bought the flat and is the new landlord!

Emmerdale

Alicia (Natalie Anderson) is getting a bit carried away with the wedding, secretly in love with her groom to be, but is brought down to earth when he produces a second-hand ring once owned by her sister.  Things set even worse for the ‘couple' though when David (Matthew Wolfenden) tells his father Eric (Chris Chittell) the real reason behind the wedding.  Eric is less than pleased and tells Justin what they are up to in hope that the wedding won't go ahead.  However, Justin threatens to report them to the authorities for fraud and so the pressure is on for the couple to convince everyone that their marriage is the real deal.

Gennie (Sian Reese-Williams) is still worried about telling Nikhil (Rik Makarem) the news that she is pregnant, especially as he keeps putting his foot in it with her by constantly referring to the weight she has put on (he even books her a surprise trip to boot camp, silly man!).  Whilst mulling over what to do, she starts to confide in Debbie (Charley Webb) and the pair seem to be getting really close.  However, the relief of having someone she thinks she can confide in is short-lived as she arrives home to find her sister Chas (Lucy Pargeter) kissing Debbie's man, Cameron (Dominic Power) in her front room.  Gennie is disgusted and says she is going to tell Debbie what is going on.  Cameron and Chas lay low waiting to hear explosions, but when they don't hear any they think they have got away with it for now.  Cameron says they have to come clean and tell Debbie what's going on before Gennie does as that is the least she deserves, but Chas has other ideas - they should pack up and do moonlight flit together.  Gennie bumps into Charity (Emma Atkins) and discover that Chas has told her all about the pregnancy and is livid at the betrayal of confidence from her sister, especially given the secret that she has been asked to keep for her.  She decides after speaking to Debbie that she does not want to be the one to break her heart and the best solution for everyone involved would be for Cameron and Chas to stop seeing each other, which she tells them to do otherwise she will tell Debbie everything.

Hannah (Grace Cassidy) decides to take up her sister Holly's (Sophie Powles)offer to move to London with her leaving Moira (Natalie J Robb) considering selling the farm as there is just too much work for them without the extra help.  Adam (Adam Thomas) convinces her not to and asks for more responsibility, which she gives him by letting him go to a meeting with a perspective buyer.  The meeting goes really well and everyone is pleased with Adam, except for Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) who is worried that Adam will take his job as farm manager away from him.

Laurel's (Charlotte Bellamy) financial situation causes her to ask Ruby (Alicya Eyo) to care for Sandy (Freddie Thomas) off the agency's books.  Ruby explains that if she was caught doing so then she would lose her job which forces Laurel to have to cancel the care her father-in-law so desperately needs.  Seeing Sandy so helpless, and Laurel so tired, Ruby tells them that she will do it after all, despite Ali's (Kelli Holliss) concerns over her job.  That's not the only thing Ali is worried about though, as her ex spends most of the week sewing the seeds of doubt into her mind over her partners friendship with Laurel, pointing out that when she met her it was in the same circumstance, and she wasn't gay then, just like Laurel isn't now.

Coronation Street

Eva's (Catherine Tyldesly) is becoming increasingly put out by Sunita's (Shobna Gulati) presence in the pub, and moans to Karl (John Mitchie) about the situation.  Obviously Karl wants Sunita there even less and encourages Eva to force her out.  The plan works and Sunita packs her bags and says she is going home to Dev (Jimmi Harkishin).  However, before she has a chance to go she has one last showdown with Karl where she throws the money that she had been stashing for him on the floor.  The whole conversation has been heard by Eva on the other side of the door, and although nothing incriminating had been said to link them to an affair, she has heard enough to get very suspicious.

Eva tells Stella (Michelle Collins) that she thinks something is untoward and explains about the money she saw sticking out of Karl's pocket.  Stella goes on a hunt and finds the stash of cash and throws Karl out (again) however by the end of the week she has taken him back (again).

Sunita makes good on her promise to go back to Dev and decides to up the anti somewhat when she proposes to him, which of course he accepts and they all go to the pub to celebrate.  Eva, still unconvinced that Sunita's part in the Karl situation is as innocent as they are making out, takes her to one side and warns her to stay away from her mother's man.

With little Simon now living with Leanne (Jane Danson) the broken family finds it hard to agree on ground rules.  After railroading her into letting him take Simon out on a school night, Peter (Chris Gascogne) is shocked to discover Leanne's foot being put firmly down in front of him as she tells him he can't have him and that they need to make a roster up and stick to it.  Feeling regretful of his drastic decision to give up custody of his son, Peter, now realising that this doesn't mean he will get the best of both worlds after all goes home and tells Carla (Alison King) he thinks they should move away from Weatherfield and have a baby of their own, much to Carla's horror!

Eva agrees to go on a date with Jason (Ryan Thomas) in order to make Nick (Ben Price) jealous, but when it becomes obvious on the date that her intention is just to get her ex's attention, Jason storms out leaving her the bill to pay.  She attempts to use Nick's shoulder to cry on, but is left feeling very rejected when it becomes very apparent that he is not interested in them getting back together.

Meanwhile, Tracy (Kate Ford) and Beth (Lisa George) concoct a plan to put off any would-be buyers after Steve (Simon Gregson) puts their house up for sale, want to know what happens next?  Click here.

EastEnders

Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) tries to keep her engagement to Jay (Jamie Borthwick) a secret, but when the ring becomes stuck on her finger she is forced to tell her parents the news.  Far from happy Max (Jake Wood) and Tanya (Jo Joyner) try every reverse psychology trick known to man to try and get her to change her mind and go to Costa Rica, but she is adamant, she is staying and marrying Jay.  It isn't long though before she comes to her senses, after Jay tells her there is no need for her to go to university once they are married, and tells him that she has changed her mind and is going on the foreign scholarship.  He makes his thoughts on the matter very clear, if she goes then the engagement is off and she has lost him forever.  But goes is exactly what she does (good girl!).

With all the plans for the wedding getting on top of her, Janine (Charlie Brooke) ends up in the Doctor's surgery after a nasty scare with her pregnancy.  The doctor tells her that the baby is fine but that the stress of everything that is going on is not helping it at all and she should seriously consider postponing the wedding.

When she tells Michael (Steve John Shepherd) that she agrees with the doctor, he blames Jean (Gillian Wright) and storms round to the pub to shout at her.

Meanwhile, Jean goes on yet another mission to get Michael back, this time by letting herself into his house to search for the paperwork she signed when she handed over the money.  She doesn't find it, of course, but is surprised when Michael turns up and confronts her.  The pair engage in a bitter war of words when Jean suddenly leaps across and snatches the St Christopher his mother gave him from around his neck and makes out she has flushed it down the toilet.  Michael breaks down and confesses everything he did to her and why before agreeing to make an announcement in the pub clearing her name and admitting everything.

Back in the Vic Michael goes to make an announcement at the same time a man wearing black comes into speak to Jean saying he is from the funeral directors and there to speak to her about the arrangements for Stacy's funeral.  Jean is beside herself, while a smug Michael makes no attempt at an admission of guilt on the other side of the bar, instead invites all the residents of Albert Square to the wedding the next day.  After being assured that Stacy is not really dead,   Jean loses her temper and smashes all the glasses on the bar to the floor before pushing Kat (Jessie Wallace) over onto all the broken glass causing her arms to need medical attention.  Whist seeing to his wife's wounds, Alfie (Shane Ritchie) tells her that he thinks that Michael is telling the truth about the money and that Jean needs to go back into hospital as her medication clearly isn't working anymore.  Kat is very reluctant but agrees.

The day of the wedding and Michael has managed to convince Janine that they should go ahead with it, and it actually looks like things are starting to look up for the blushing bride when her brother Ricky (Sid Owen) and sister Dianne (Sophie Lawrence - who you will be sorry to know quite obviously did not attend any acting lessons since the last time she was on our screens) turn up to celebrate with her.  But one problem is the groom is nowhere to be seen.

Michael is in Jack's (Scot Maslen) flat with Kat.  She is asking him one last time if Jean is telling the truth as they are going to have her committed despite her threatening to kill herself if they do.  This triggers something in Michael and he confesses all to Kat.

Kat storms off and tells Alfie what has been said and demands that he does not perform his duties as best man, but spineless Alfie can't let his cousin down, and still doubts everything Jean has been saying.

The wedding goes ahead but in the middle of it Michael takes Janine into the square to tell her he can't go through with it as he had lied to her about Jean.  He tells her the truth and for some bizarre reason not only does she still want to marry him (pretty much begs him in fact) he somehow manages to convince her to rip up the pre-nup as well as he can't be with someone who doesn't trust him (despite having just confessed to stealing thousands from a fragile lady and making her and everyone else believe she has gone insane).

The return to the ceremony and say their 'I do's' and the wedding starts to get into the party mode, and even Max is caught up in the romance when he drops to one knee and asks Tanya to marry him, to which she says eys.

However, amidst all the celebrations a heavily pregnant Janine collapses to the floor bleeding after her waters break 11 weeks early!

She is rushed to the hospital where an emergency C section id performed to remove the baby girl, with doctors warning the newlyweds that she might not make it.

Back on the square Jean is the only one left inside the marquee, stood next to Janine's shoe, covered in blood, holding the supposedly flushed St Christopher she took from Michael.
