Respected fire and security systems supplier Detect Fire and Security have just announced that their charity for 2012 will be The Rowans Hospice.

Chris Ellis, Sales Director of Detect Ltd said,

"Every year we like to support a local charity in their fund raising activities. We are planning to give them one full share of our 2012 profit payout as well as participating with their abseil challenge on 19th May alongside Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard. I am hoping that Guinness World Record Holder, Doris Long, who at the age of 98 aims to renew her title by braving the 200ft descent (20 storeys) down Millgate House, will be an inspiration to those in our team who are a little nervous".

Chris added that his team of 35 at Detect had been impressed and moved by the work of The Rowans Hospice, a local charity dedicated to improving the lives of people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. The charity, established since 1994, has helped more than 7,000 patients and their families across the South East of Hampshire, by providing free services. However, The Rowans Hospice has to raise over £4 million each year to continue their vital work for those that need support at a challenging time in their lives.

"We hope that lots of people will come along to support the Detect team and Doris on 19th May and maybe some braver people will join us abseiling. We are also looking forward to raising as much money as we can for our chosen charity throughout 2012" Chris said.

Ali George, Events Fundraiser for The Rowans Hospice said,

"It means a great deal to everyone at The Rowans Hospice to be selected by Detect Ltd as their charity of the year. In these challenging economic times such support makes a huge difference and is essential for us to carry on with our support of those that need us most".
