5th DIFASS workshop takes place in Portsmouth
Next week WSX Enterprise welcomes fellow DIFASS European project partners and guests to a workshop to discuss and share good practice around intellectual property and human capital.
The workshop, which takes place on Thursday 19 September in Portsmouth, will be attended by around 40 European partners. The DIFASS project facilitates access to finance for enterprises by exchanging innovative business support measures across Europe. It focuses on the development and implementation of non-grant based financial support instruments, such as revolving funds, trans-regional funds and venture capital funds.
Five Good Practices will be discussed at the workshop - with partners from Spain, Italy, the Slovak Republic, Poland and Portsmouth presenting their projects. Participants will discuss the pros and cons of their proposals and agree the good practices most likely to succeed in the other regions. Participants are also invited to take part in a study visit to the Innovation Warehouse in Portsmouth.
Press Conference
13:15 on Thursday 19 September. All interested parties welcome to meet the partners.

Background to DIFASS project
Focusing on the development and implementation of non-grant financial based instruments, the overall aim of the DIFASS PROGRAMME is to improve access to finance for innovative SMEs by exchanging good practice on innovative business support measures. This project originates from a previous 2008 Interreg Project where it became clear that non-grant financial support instruments were less likely to succeed on their own and need to be integrated with other non-financial support services to be successful.
Run in conjunction with 26 European Partners the project covers 8 themes - Micro Loans, Internationalisation, Guidance to Finance and Loan Guarantee Schemes, Mixed Grant/Non Grant, Intellectual Property and Human Capital, Spin offs/Start up/Early stage, Jeremie and other Revolving Funds, Mezzanine/Equity/Venture Capital. Two programmes from the eight themes have also been selected for pilot transfer and implementation to other regions.
Partners in the programme are looking to establish:
- How the examples of good practice presented and discussed at each workshop can help them develop policies and programmes and support businesses in their own region,
- And where appropriate, the practical aspects involved in transferring the practice to their region.
The project is supported by the INTERREG IVC Programme. The overall objective of the programme is to improve the effectiveness of regional policies and instruments. INTERREG IVC provides funding for interregional cooperation across Europe. It is implemented under the European Community's territorial co-operation objective and financed through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
