PFS Presents Red Shoes And Family Histories On Film

The Portdmouth Film Society (PFS) is showing two screenings next week:

Familie Histories On Film 

In February 2012 a call was issued by artist/filmmaker and historian, Patti Gaal-Holmes, for anyone living or working in Portsmouth to submit old family films for ‘Portsmouth: Family Histories on Film'. A collection day  - also advertised on BBC South - was held at Aspex Gallery (Gunwharf Quays) on Saturday 14^th April. Over fifty films from the 1960s and 1970s were collected. These include footage of Old Portsmouth, the Round Tower, the Still & West pub, Southsea beach - including Alec Rose's 1966 ill-fated departure from Portsmouth to sail around the world; an Isle of Wight summer carnival parade with Ryde, Shanklin and Newport carnival queens; families picnicking and children playing; weddings and holidays abroad in places such as Egypt and Guernsey. Come and join us for a screening of a selection of the films on Tuesday 19th June at 6pm at the Portsmouth Film Society, Omega Centre, Somerstown. This will include an introductory talk by Patti Gaal-Holmes. Ticket : £2 and free for PFS full members
